“Don’t be a tourist, be a traveller!”

“Romantic coblestone steets, sent of a lemon tree and warmest hospitality!”

To really understand what the above sentence means, you have to stay at the Casa do Bairro when you visit Lisbon. Located right in the heart of Lisbon’s old and lively neighbourhood, Bairro Alto, this gem of a boutique guesthouse makes you feel like you have stepped into an old friend’s house from the moment you enter. Make no mistake, it is not the easiest place to find, but then again so are most well kept secret pleasures of foreign cities.

Magda, Hugo, and Andreas are all incredibly helpful and give you the best tips to experience Lisbon like a local does – from the nicest classic Portuguese restaurants to chic lounges with breathtaking views of Lisbon sunset with a cooling drink, from best sightseeing spots in the city to great “fado” locations to enjoy Lisbon in the evening.

Being so close to one of the liveliest parts of town, you might think that noise might be an issue. Do not worry. Whether you decide to enjoy the view with the scent of a lemon tree by taking a break in the lovely terrace, or just want to relax a bit in the tranquility of your room, you will find that Casa do Bairro is so close yet so far from the heart of a beautiful city. .
Best wishes and kind regards.

“So Fantastic!”

We are just about to check out from our stay at Casa do Bairro. What a wonderful little hotel. The staff could not be more helpful and friendly. They went far out out their way to help us in any way they could. As for the room – it was immaculate, has the most comfortable beds and bedding, huge bathtub and separate shower. Decorations were first class and incredibly tasteful. The hotel (B&B) is located on a little street away from the hustle and bustle but convenient to all transportation. It is on a hill but was manageable. Thank you for all your help, recommendations to fabulous restaurants, and for a wonderful experience in Lisbon, despite the rain 🙂
