An authentic experience…
Those who enter number 19 of Travessa do Caldeira are transported to an antique and picturesque Lisbon that is charming. Once the residency of monks and nuns, since 2011, Pátio das Parreiras welcomes the guests from Casa do Pátio Bed and Breakfast and Apartments by Shiadu, guaranteeing an authentic and tranquil stay in the heart of Lisbon but simultaneously away from the commotion of a European capital.
In this courtyard full of history and famous throughout the entire neighborhood of Santa Catarina, Shiadu disposes of double and family rooms and apartments, some with a view over the city of Lisbon. The architectural structure was maintained but the decor and comfort associated with Shiadu complemented the Pátio das Parreiras. And there still are small details that goes back to other glorious times of this courtyard, such as the molds of the colorful shoes hanging on the wall which used to belong to an old cobbler who lived there.
Every morning it is possible to taste a delicious homemade breakfast in the patio and plan your day with the help of our guest-relations, always available to advise you about the best places to visit in the city. Strategically located, the Casa do Pátio Bed and Breakfast and Apartments by Shiadu can be found within a short walking distance from Bairro Alto, Chiado and Baixa. And, in case you want to visit other places which happen to be further away, you have within two minutes the famous 28 tram stop which will transport you to Castelo de São Jorge or th the neighborhood of Alfama. At the end of the day, after exploring Lisbon’s seven hills, there is nothing better than relaxing in the courtyard with a glass of Portuguese wine to accompany you.
Authenticity is the word that best describes our dear Casa do Pátio Bed & Breakfast and Apartments by Shiadu and we are anxiously waiting to share it with you… we wait for you, follow your instinct!
At Shiadu, each guest sees their stay complemented with a series of services already included in their room rate, as well as other services that can be solicited before or during their stay, at an additional cost. “Thank you, guys!”
I had the best time in this B&B. Our room was fabulous, overlooking the river, perfect in all the details and worth the money. Joao (staff) is extremely helpful, friendly, caring and very helpful. But I must say everybody was. I loved those sweet ladies in the breakfast room. We had breakfast every morning (it was not included) and although it was not that cheap compared to what you can get somewhere else in Lisbon for the same cost, I did not regret getting it. That chocolate bread was orgasmic! The freshly squeezed orange juice was superb. Very good expresso as well. Too bad it was a bit cold to have it in the patio 🙂 I definitely recommend Casa do Patio if you don’t want an anonymous hotel for your stay in Lisbon.
When you go out exploring on the very first day, I suggest you memorize your own landmarks to find your way back to the hotel at night: not a big deal but you may miss the right turn 😉

We couldn’t have found a nicer place to stay. It was handy for the sights – a 3 or 4 minute walk to the tram stop and the Miradouro de Santa Catarina and less than 10 minutes to the top of the Elevador da Bica, which came in very handy a couple of times. Lisbon is hilly but we found we didn’t have to do much trekking up hills thanks to Lisbon’s public transport system. The restaurants and nightlife of the Bairro Alto were also close (and roughly on the same level).
Our room was tastefully decorated and very clean. And so quiet! The B&B is in a very quiet neighbourhood; as the roads are very narrow there’s very little traffic going past. The only improvement I could suggest would be for an extra drawer, a few more coathangers and a hook for coats and one in the bathroom.
The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. On arrival we were welcomed with a glass of fresh orange juice which is most welcome when you’ve been travelling for several hours. They provided maps and plenty of suggestions for sights and restaurants/bars to visit, explained where to buy travel passes and catch trams from, booked a taxi and a restaurant for us and phoned a museum for its opening times on our behalf. The B&B has a central courtyard around which the rooms lead off. Guests were welcome to relax in the courtyard with a drink (there’s an honesty fridge if you don’t have your own).
We also had breakfast in the courtyard unless it was raining (and it did one morning!). I have to say the Casa do Patio put on one of the largest breakfast spreads I’ve ever seen in a B&B.
We would happily stay here again if we ever return to Lisbon.
